Corporate Espionage in play with Major League Baseball

Hacking in to business computer systems has become a common everyday occurrence. We see the headlines in the media everyday. It is not just money criminals are after anymore. The bigger threat is usually your personal information which leads to identity theft. In the most recent case of cyber crime The Cardinals, a major league baseball team, are being accused of hacking into a competitors network to steal private and valuable business intelligence. Someone must have felt that this was more than a game, and we also need to remember that cyber crime is more than a game – it’s a BOOMING business. How can we protect our business data from pranksters, thieves, and competitors? In addition to Firewalls and antivirus, perhaps we need to start incorporating encryption and mobile device management as a standard, especially where highly sensitive data is involved.

An FBI investigations is now underway I am sure will will see extremely harsh punishments. What do you think the punishment should be for the cardinals?
