Common questions about backup and recovery

Are my backups tested?

Yes. We restore from your backups on a schedule and verify every backup job, so a working recovery is proven rather than assumed. A backup that has never been restored is just a hope, so testing is built into how we run it, and we run a full recovery drill once a year.

Is Microsoft 365 backed up?

Not by Microsoft. Microsoft keeps the 365 service running, but recovering your mailboxes, files, and SharePoint after deletion or ransomware is your responsibility. We back up your Microsoft 365 data independently, on a dedicated backup platform, so you can restore it on your own terms.

How fast can we recover after a failure?

That depends on your recovery targets, which we set with you and write down as RTO and RPO. With image-based backups and rapid virtualization, we can often spin up a failed server from its backup and keep you running while we rebuild, instead of waiting for new hardware.

What protects backups from ransomware?

We keep clean, isolated recovery points that modern ransomware cannot reach and encrypt, along with offsite and cloud copies. If an attack hits, we roll back to a known-good point instead of paying a ransom, and the offsite copy means one infected site does not take everything.

Where are backups stored?
