Services / IT Consulting & vCIO

A CIO on your side, without the headcount.

Strategic IT leadership for businesses across New Hampshire, southern Maine, and eastern Massachusetts: roadmaps, budgets, and compliance, aligned to where your business is headed, from a team that also runs the technology underneath it.

  • Roadmap & budget
  • Security & compliance
  • Vendor strategy
  • Included in managed IT

A vCIO (virtual CIO) is senior IT strategy without a full-time executive hire. RMON sits on your side of the table to plan your technology roadmap, budget for it, guide security and compliance, and align every IT decision to your business goals. For managed-IT clients that strategy time is part of the plan; standalone consulting and assessments are scoped on their own.

When no one owns the IT strategy

Plenty of businesses have someone to fix the laptop, but no one deciding where the technology is going. Decisions get made one purchase at a time, and the bill for that shows up later.

Strategy that answers to you, not a vendor

Your vCIO is a senior RMON strategist who learns your business and plans the technology around it: a roadmap tied to your goals, a budget with no surprises, a security and compliance plan, and a straight answer on what to buy and what to skip. Because we run on a flat fee instead of billable hours, that advice points the same direction as your interest: the right technology, not the most of it.

  • A technology roadmap and budget tied to where the business is going.
  • Security and compliance guidance, in plain English.
  • Independent advice, because we do not earn more when you buy more.

The vCIO roadmap

Assess, plan, budget, execute, and review, on repeat, so technology keeps pace with the business.

What a vCIO does for you

Strategic IT leadership, on tap, without hiring a full-time executive. For managed-IT clients this is built into the plan.

Technology roadmap

A clear multi-year plan for your systems, tied to your business goals instead of the next emergency.

IT budgeting & planning

Predictable budgets and lifecycle planning, so hardware and licensing renew on plan, not by surprise.

Security & compliance guidance

Direction on the controls your business, insurers, and clients expect, from HIPAA to NIST 800-171 to CMMC.

Business-goal alignment

Every technology decision measured against where you are trying to take the business.

Vendor & licensing strategy

A plan for the tools you own, the licenses you pay for, and the vendors worth keeping, with us managing them.

Strategy reviews

Regular sit-downs to review what changed, what is next, and what it costs, in plain English.

Risk & lifecycle planning

A read on where the risk and the aging systems are, and a plan to retire them before they fail.

Growth & change planning

New sites, new hires, an acquisition, or a move: the IT planned in before it happens, not after.

Two ways to work with a vCIO

Most clients get their vCIO time as part of all-inclusive managed IT. If you just need the strategy, we do that on its own too.

Included in managed IT
  • Ongoing roadmap, budget, and strategy reviews
  • Security and compliance guidance
  • Vendor and licensing strategy
  • A named strategist who knows your business
Standalone, scoped & quoted
  • One-time IT or security assessments
  • Compliance readiness projects (HIPAA, NIST 800-171, CMMC)
  • Technology due diligence for a move or acquisition
  • Project-based advisory for in-house IT teams

Either way the incentive is the same: we are paid to make your technology work, not to sell you more of it.

Common questions about IT consulting & vCIO

What is a vCIO?
A virtual CIO is senior IT strategy without a full-time executive hire. Your vCIO builds the technology roadmap, budget, and compliance plan, and makes sure every IT decision lines up with your business goals, for a fraction of the cost of the role in-house.
Is vCIO time included in managed IT?
Yes. For managed-IT clients, ongoing vCIO and IT strategy are part of the plan, not billed by the hour. Standalone consulting and one-time assessments are scoped and quoted on their own.
We are small. Do we really need a vCIO?
You need the thinking, not the title. Even a small business makes expensive technology decisions; a vCIO makes sure they are planned and pointed at your goals instead of made one emergency at a time.
Can you help us get compliant?
Yes. We guide the technical side of HIPAA, NIST 800-171, CMMC, and client or insurer security requirements, put the controls in place, and keep the documentation that proves them. We own the technology and guide you through the rest.
How is this different from managed IT?
Managed IT runs and secures your technology day to day. The vCIO decides where it is going: the roadmap, the budget, and the strategy above the day-to-day. Most clients get both, together.
